During the luncheon, Mr Lam said that the Government, with the support of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, had conducted a comprehensive review of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance to examine whether its existing provisions could still afford adequate protection to personal data having regard to developments, including advancement in technology, over the last decade or so. The Government had published a consultation document to set out the proposals to amend the Ordinance and would welcome views from various sectors of the community on the proposals.

The Consultation Document on Review of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance can be obtained from any District Office or downloaded from the website of the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau (www.cmab.gov.hk). The consultation period will end on November 30.
