Forums to collect public views on Review of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance

The Government has published the Consultation Document on Review of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. To widely consult the public on the suggestions in the document, the Government will hold a public forum tomorrow (September 18) from 7pm to 9pm, at the Auditorium, Youth Square, 238 Chai Wan Road, Chai Wan, Hong Kong.

The forum will be conducted in Cantonese. Simultaneous interpretation in English will be available.

The public may register by phone (at 2810 2059/2810 2261), fax (at 2523 0565) or email (at pdpo_consultation@cmab.gov.hk) to the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau. Seats are available on a first come, first served basis.

The Government, with the support of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, has conducted a comprehensive review of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance to examine whether its existing provisions still afford adequate protection to personal data having regard to developments, including advancement in technology, over the last decade or so.

The consultation document can be obtained from any District Offices or downloaded from the website of the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau (www.cmab.gov.hk). The consultation period will end on November 30. A second public forum will be held on October 30.

Ends/Thursday, September 17, 2009
