SCA appeals to public to register as voters

The Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, and the Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission, Mr Justice Pang Kin-kee, officiated at the launching ceremony of the 2007 Voter Registration Campaign.

In his opening address, Mr Lam called on all those eligible, particularly young people who have reached 18, to register as voters by July 16, 2007, so that they can vote at the District Council election to be held in November.

He also reminded those who have already registered to inform the Registration and Electoral Office (REO), by August 29, of any change in their address.

The Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Pamela Tan; Assistant Director of Broadcasting, Mr Tai Keen-man; one of the Voter Registration Ambassadors and an outstanding athlete, Mr Ho Siu-lun; and artiste Mr Kwok Chun-on, also took part in the ceremony. A number of District Council Chairmen and Vice-chairmen showed up to give their support to the Voter Registration Campaign.

Canto-pop singers including Mr Eric Suen, Miss Ivana Wong, Miss Kary Ng, Miss Elanne Kong and Mr Jason Chan performed at the ceremony and helped promote the campaign messages.

The ceremony co-organised by the Constitutional Affairs Bureau and the Radio Television Hong Kong took place at APM in Kwun Tong.

There were on-site counters manned by REO staff in the course of the event to help eligible people apply for voter registration and help registered voters to update their addresses.
