Thousand attended seminar on Basic Law

Around a thousand participants of varied ages from different sectors of the community attended the Seminar on the 10th Anniversary of the Implementation and 17th Anniversary of the Promulgation of the Basic Law, jointly organised by the Constitutional Affairs Bureau and the Joint Committee for the Promotion of the Basic Law of Hong Kong (JCPBL).

Apart from reviewing the successful implementation of the Basic Law and the principle of "One Country, Two Systems" in the past decade from the social, economic and livelihood perspectives, participants to the seminar also discussed Hong Kong's future development.

The Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, Mr Li Gang, and the Secretary for Justice of the HKSAR, Mr Wong Yan Lung, SC, were the officiating guests of the seminar.

The Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam; the Deputy Director of the Basic Law Committee of the HKSAR, Ms Elsie Leung; the Deputy Director, Institute of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs, Development Research Center of State Council, Professor Rao Geping; the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Newpower International (Holdings), Mr David T.C. Lie; the Racing Talent Development Manager cum Headmistress of Apprentice Jockey's School, Ms Amy Chan; the Chairman of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Association, Mr Li Xiu Heng; and a student representative had addressed the seminar.

The Vice Chairman of the JCPBL, Mr Eddie Ho, and the National Committee member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference cum the Vice Chairman of the All-China Youth Federation, Mr Kennedy Wong, were the moderators of the seminar.

The seminar, held at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall, also featured a performance by students from Elegantia College, champion of a singing contest organised by the JCPBL.
