2006 Election Committee subsector elections to be held on December 10

In accordance with the Chief Executive Election Ordinance, the Chief Executive (CE) has specified December 10 as the date for holding the coming Election Committee (EC) subsector elections, the Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, said today (May 10).

Mr Lam made the announcement while speaking at the Legislative Council (LegCo) on the resumption of the second reading of the CE Election and LegCo Election (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill 2006. A notice of the polling day will be published in the gazette this Friday.

"As in the past, the Electoral Affairs Commission and the relevant government departments will make all necessary arrangements to ensure that the elections are conducted in a fair, open and honest manner," he stressed.

The term of office of the new EC will begin on February 1, 2007, and it will elect the new term CE on March 25, 2007.
