Voter registration drive kicked off

The 2004 Voter Registration Campaign was kicked off today (April 3) at a ceremony featuring Government officials, Members of the Legislative Council and District Councils, popular artistes and about 100 new electors at Kwai Fong Metroplaza.

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Donald Tsang; the Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam; the Secretary for Home Affairs, Dr Patrick Ho; and the Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission, Mr Justice Woo Kwok-hing officiated at the ceremony.

Canto-pop singers and artistes Mr Hacken Lee, Miss Gigi Leung and Boyz etc., who have been appointed the Ambassadors of the campaign, joined the officiating guests to call on all eligible persons to register as electors.

The officiating guests broke open a giant Easter egg from which 100 people from all walks of life and age groups came out, symbolizing the birth of new electors.
The ceremony was followed by a mini-concert featuring Canto-pop singers to help drive home the campaign messages.

Throughout this afternoon, Home Affairs Department staff set up counters at the shopping centre to help eligible people apply for voter registration or allow registered electors to update their residential addresses.

Ends/Saturday, April 3, 2004
