The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) was established on 1 July, 1997 in accordance with the Constitution of the People's Republic of China. The Basic Law came into effect on the same day, and provides a constitutional basis for the systems practised in Hong Kong. The Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau (CMAB) is responsible for overseeing the full and faithful implementation of the Basic Law. We develop and maintain a constructive working relationship between the HKSAR Government and the Central People's Government as well as other Mainland authorities in accordance with the principles of "one country, two systems", "Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong" and a high degree of autonomy.
The Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau is responsible for coordinating the comprehensive and implementation of the Basic Law. In accordance with the principles of "one country, two systems", "Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong" and a high degree of autonomy, we develop and maintain a constructive working relationship between the Hong Kong SAR Government and the Central People's Government and other mainland government departments.
