Four Directors of Bureaux join LegCo joint-Panel duty visit to Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area (with photos)

     The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Patrick Nip; the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Edward Yau; the Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Nicholas W Yang; and the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr James Lau, today (April 20) joined the Legislative Council (LegCo) joint-Panel (Panel on Economic Development, Panel on Financial Affairs, Panel on Commerce and Industry, and Panel on Information Technology and Broadcasting)’s three-day duty visit (April 20 to 22) to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area to visit five cities there, namely Shenzhen, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Foshan and Guangzhou.

     Upon arrival in Shenzhen this morning, the delegation first visited an Internet bank to learn about the features and operation of a virtual bank and the application of financial technology (Fintech). They also visited the Command and Control Centre of the Shenzhen Traffic Police Headquarters where they were briefed on the use of technology in traffic control.

     In the afternoon, the four Directors of Bureaux and LegCo members met with the Vice Mayor of Shenzhen Municipality, Mr Ai Xuefeng. They then toured a communication technology enterprise to get a better grasp of the development of innovation and technology in Shenzhen.

     The delegation later departed for Dongguan and met with the Mayor of Dongguan Municipality, Mr Xiao Yafei. They also visited Songshan Lake Xbot Park and Songshan Lake Eco-city Science Museum to get first-hand information on Dongguan's technology development and the collaboration projects between Songshan Lake Science and Technology Industry Park and Hong Kong.

     They will continue the visit in Dongguan tomorrow morning (April 21) and visit Zhongshan and Foshan in the afternoon.
