EAC Report on 2017 Chief Executive Election published

The Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) Report on the 2017 Chief Executive (CE) Election was published today (July 3).

The report describes how the EAC conducted and supervised the 2016 Election Committee Subsector Elections and the 2017 CE Election at various stages and gives a detailed account of the preparatory work, electoral arrangements and handling of complaints. The report also contains a review of the electoral procedures and arrangements and puts forth recommendations for improvement in future elections.

"We are grateful to the EAC for their efforts in conducting the two elections in accordance with the law, and reviewing the arrangements for the election. The Government will continue to work closely with the EAC to follow up on the recommendations in the report," a Government spokesman said.

In accordance with the requirements of the Electoral Affairs Commission Ordinance (Cap. 541), the EAC submitted the report on the 2017 CE Election to the CE on June 16, 2017. In line with past practice and the principle of open and transparent elections, the Government agreed with the EAC's recommendation that the report should be made public.
