The 2015 Pan-Pearl River Delta (PPRD) Regional Co-operation Chief Executive Joint Conference was held in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, today (December 11). The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Raymond Tam, attended the Conference on behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
During the Conference, Mr Tam had an interactive discussion with government leaders of the PPRD provinces/regions on elevating PPRD regional co-operation to the national strategy level and deepening the latest round of PPRD regional co-operation.
Mr Tam said, "The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China's proposal on Formulating the 13th Five-Year Plan on National Economic and Social Development was announced last month. Amongst others, the proposal emphasised the need to strengthen co-operation among the Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau, to enhance the opening up of the Mainland to Hong Kong and Macau, and for the first time, to deepen regional co-operation of the country, including the PPRD region. This shows that the PPRD region will be given greater opportunities and play a more significant role in the country's development.
"With our dual advantages of 'one country' and 'two systems', Hong Kong can better contribute to the sustainable development of the PPRD region and our country in the new round of PPRD regional co-operation."
He added that the comparative advantages of the PPRD region should be highlighted to proactively complement the development strategy of the country, and Hong Kong should make use of its "super-connector" role to help the PPRD region develop modern service industries, implement the "go global" strategy and push forward urbanisation.
