Appointment of Chairperson of Hong Kong-Taiwan Economic and Cultural Cooperation and Promotion Council |
The following is issued on behalf of the Secretariat to the Hong Kong-Taiwan Economic and Cultural Cooperation and Promotion Council: The Hong Kong-Taiwan Economic and Cultural Cooperation and Promotion Council (ECCPC) announced today (November 30) that Mr David Lie has been appointed as the ECCPC Chairperson vice Mr Charles Lee on retirement with effect from December 1, 2015. The ECCPC Honorary Chairperson, Mr John C Tsang, said, "As the founding Chairperson of the ECCPC, Mr Charles Lee has broken new ground for Hong Kong-Taiwan relations. Over the past five years, there have been various breakthroughs in exchanges and co-operation between Hong Kong and Taiwan under the direction of Mr Lee. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Mr Lee. "Mr David Lie has been serving as an ECCPC Vice-Chairperson and the Chairman of the Hong Kong-Taiwan Business Co-operation Committee for years. He possesses rich experience and good knowledge of the business environment in both Hong Kong and Taiwan. I believe that Mr Lie will lead the ECCPC to further constructive exchanges between Hong Kong and Taiwan." Established on April 1, 2010, the ECCPC engages the Taiwan-Hong Kong Economic and Cultural Co-operation Council, its counterpart set up in Taiwan, to serve as the non-official platform for negotiating co-operation between the two places. The Financial Secretary acts as the ECCPC Honorary Chairperson, whereas senior representatives from various policy bureaux and relevant organisations are appointed as ECCPC Directors to promote multi-faceted, multi-level exchanges between Hong Kong and Taiwan.
