USCMA answers questions at media standup

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Under Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah, at a media standup after attending an event organised by the Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong this afternoon (December 28):

Reporter: ...(New Year protest)?

Under Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs: Of course, various groups will have their various activities. In any time, we are sincere to hear about the voice and we hope that we can have a platform so that various voices can be gathered within the consultation period.

Reporter: If the turnout turns out to be large amount of people, ... consider that as most of the citizens in Hong Kong are wanting a civil nomination?

Under Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs: I won't comment on any single activity.

Reporter: And how is the government gonna speak to the public about political reform and universal suffrage?

Under Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs: We have a platform now. Within the consultation period, we hope that various groups within the community will air their views and we will gather their views. We hope that we can come to a consensus at the end of the day.
