HKSAR Government welcomes meeting between CPGLO and Democratic Party |
Regarding the meeting between the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR (CPGLO) and the Democratic Party today (May 24), a government spokesman gave the following response: "The HKSAR Government warmly welcomes today's meeting between CPGLO Deputy Director Li Gang and the Democratic Party, which serves to open up this communication channel, and allows the Democratic Party to express their views to the representatives of the Central Authorities directly on Hong Kong's constitutional development. The HKSAR Government has been reflecting pro-actively and faithfully to the Central Authorities the views of different political parties and individuals on constitutional development, and their aspiration to communicate with the Central Authorities. We sincerely hope that the communication which started today will create a rational and pragmatic environment for Hong Kong, so as to help the community narrow differences and forge consensus on the proposed package for 2012. This can then pave the way for implementing universal suffrage for the Chief Executive and the Legislative Council in 2017 and 2020 respectively." Ends/Monday, May 24, 2010 |
