The Hong Kong Pavilion and Hong Kong's Urban Best Practices Area (UBPA) Exhibition operated smoothly during the five-day test runs of Expo 2010 Shanghai China (Shanghai Expo), and visitors had good impression of the two exhibitions.

Hong Kong participated throughout the test runs. By noon today, the two exhibitions attracted more than 42,000 visitors during the five-day test run period.

The Hong Kong Pavilion started operation at 9.30am today (April 25) as scheduled. Visitors queued up orderly outside the Pavilion for instructions by Pavilion assistants to enter the Pavilion.

Visitors generally said the exhibition was appealing.

They were impressed by the diversified content and display means, various interactive games and information, and the green environment on the rooftop, which enabled them to gain a better understanding of Hong Kong's connectivity with the world, its diversity, free flow of information and proximity to the nature.

Visitors were also happy with the guidance and services provided by Pavilion assistants and the general arrangements, which demonstrate Hong Kong's characteristics of "showing grandeur while being compact".

Hong Kong's UBPA exhibition on the Puxi side of the Expo Park also attracted much attention.

Through watching video on the 360-degree circular screen, interacting with the vertical LED screens, and the guidance of assistants, visitors obtained a better understanding of the many different applications of smart card and Radio Frequency Identification technology in Hong Kong.

Commissioner, HKSAR Expo Affairs office, Mr Patrick Chan said he was satisfied with the outcome of the five-day test runs, and was delighted to learn that the Hong Kong exhibitions were so popular with visitors.

He said staff involved would endeavour to fine-tune operations in the following days in light of the experience gained to make sure that Hong Kong would be thoroughly prepared for the Shanghai Expo's grand opening on May 1.

Apart from the Hong Kong Pavilion themed "Hong Kong - Potential Unlimited", the UBPA Exhibition with the theme of "Smart Card.Smart City.Smart Life", Hong Kong will also take part in the Shanghai Expo Online and stage more than 55 events and activities during the six-month Shanghai Expo period.
