SCMA meets Taipei County delegation (with photos) |
The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, this afternoon (August 6) met with a Taipei County government delegation at the Government Headquarters. The Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau has arranged the meeting for officials from the Tourism Commission, the Environmental Protection Department and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department to brief the Taiwan visitors on their work and the development of tourism, environmental protection and conservation in Hong Kong. Welcoming the visitors, Mr Lam said Taiwan was Hong Kong's fourth largest trading partner in Asia. Tourism between the two places was also booming. With the enhancement of the Cross-Strait relations in the past few years, exchanges between Hong Kong and Taiwan had also increased. In particular, he mentioned that the Hong Kong Trade Development Council had set up an office in Taipei last October, the first time that a statutory, semi-government organisation had formally set up an office in Taiwan. Hong Kong and Taichung City held the first Hong Kong-Taiwan Inter-City Forum in Hong Kong in this April. This was followed by a visit he led to Taipei in June where a consensus was reached with the Mainland Affairs Office on the principles of setting up bilateral business co-operation committees for both sides, he added. Led by the Deputy Secretary-General, Mr Liao Jung Ching, the Taipei County government delegation comprises officials from the Economic Development Bureau; the Research, Development and Evaluation Commission; and the Information Office of the Taipei County Government. Ends/Thursday, August 6, 2009
