|Government to launch new radio programmes for ethnic minorities
The Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau has teamed up with Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) to launch two new radio programmes starting this Sunday (July 13) – "Saptahik Sandesh" (Weekly Message) in Nepali and "Hong Kong Ki Shaam" (Hong Kong This Evening) in the Pakistani language, Urdu.
The programmes will feature a variety of useful information and entertainment, including music, news, current affairs and community services that are relevant to the ethnic minority communities. Prominent cultural and entertainment figures from the respective ethnic communities will also be interviewed in the programmes.
"The radio programmes are our continuing effort to enhance the ethnic minorities' sense of belonging in Hong Kong, while retaining their own cultural identities," a bureau spokesman said today (July 11).
The programmes will be broadcast on RTHK Radio 3 AM567 on 52 consecutive Sundays from July 13, 2008, to July 5, 2009. "Saptahik Sandesh" will be broadcast from 7.05pm to 7.30pm, while "Hong Kong Ki Shaam" will be from 7.30pm to 8pm.
Chura Thapa, an English teacher and a correspondent, will host "Saptahik Sandesh". Abid Ali Baig, a poet and a writer with over 30 years of broadcasting experience in Pakistan, will host "Hong Kong Ki Shaam".
