|Applications invited for two funding schemes
The Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau is inviting organisations to apply for funding from the Equal Opportunities (Race) Funding Scheme and the Children's Rights Education Funding Scheme for 2008-09.
The objectives of the two schemes are respectively to provide financial support for organisations wishing to hold activities to promote equal opportunities for various races and to arouse awareness of children's rights.
The Equal Opportunities (Race) Funding Scheme was launched in 1998 and is run on an annual basis. "Funds were allocated to non-governmental organisations to sponsor activities aimed at elimination of race discrimination and encouragement of racial harmony," a spokesman for the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau said.
"In 2006, to encourage promotion of children's rights, we launched the Children's Rights Education Funding Scheme on a pilot basis. In view of the positive response in the past two years, we continue the scheme this year to encourage more community organisations to organise children's rights promotion activities.
"The projects funded under both schemes encourage community-based initiatives to promote awareness across various social groups. So far, the two schemes have approved some 330 projects run by a wide range of NGOs, community, children and ethnic groups," the spokesman said.
Application forms are available from the websites of the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau below and at all Public Enquiry Service Centres of the Home Affairs Department. The deadline for applications is March 28, 2008.
A briefing session for interested organisations/people will be held on March 13 at the conference room, 30/F Southorn Centre, 130 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai. The briefing will provide an overview of the schemes' objectives, the use of sponsorship and discuss the experiences of past sponsored projects.
