Study on remuneration package for principal officials still underway

In response to enquiries regarding a press report published today (January 3) that remuneration for principal officials appointed under the accountability system would be in the range of $4 million to $5 million per annum, a Government spokesman described the report as purely speculative.

The Government earlier commissioned a consultant to study and recommend an appropriate remuneration package for principal officials appointed under the accountability system. The consultancy study is still on-going.

"The Government would formulate an appropriate remuneration package for principal officials appointed under the accountability system in the light of the consultancy study and the consultant's recommendations. As the consultancy study is still on-going, it is too early to say what the eventual package would be," he said.
