|HK students visit Beijing to learn more about country's development and Basic Law
A group of 30 Hong Kong secondary students led by a member of the Basic Law Promotion Steering Committee, Mr MA Fung-kwok, arrived in Beijing today (August 7) for a one-week study tour.
The delegation first visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council (HKMAO) and the Legislative Affairs Commission of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPCSC). They were accompanied by the Director of the Office of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR in Beijing, Mr Tso Man-tai.
The Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Yang Jiechi, and other officials of the MFA met the students and enhanced their understanding on the country’s foreign policies and the work of the MFA.
The Director-General of the Department of Exchange and Cooperation of the HKMAO, Mr Qian Lijun, and the Chief of the Department of the State Law of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the NPCSC, Mr Chen Sixi, also met the delegation and briefed them on the work of their departments.
The other programmes of the delegation include attending a flag-raising ceremony at Tiananmen Square, exchanges with students of Tsinghua University, and a visit to HKSARG’s Office in Beijing and the Capital Museum, to know more about the latest development of the country, the Basic Law and the principle of "One Country, Two Systems".
The 30 students are the winners of the "The Best Game Booth Award" of the "Inter-school Basic Law Game Booth Design Competition" jointly organised by the Constitutional Affairs Bureau and the Education and Manpower Bureau in April this year. The free study tour to Beijing is one of the prizes they won.
The competition was organised to celebrate the 16th anniversary of the promulgation of the Basic Law. Participants were required to creatively design game booths to promote the Basic Law and the principle of "One Country, Two Systems" to the general public.
A total of 23 teams from 19 schools participated in the competition. The Champion, first runner-up and second runner-up of "The Best Game Booth Award" were Tang King Po School, HHCKLA Buddhist Leung Chik Wai College and ELCHK Lutheran Secondary School respectively.
