Champion team stages Basic Law Promotion Day on campus

The Basic Law Promotion Day Competition's champion team comprising five students of St Paul's School (Lam Tin) today (October 29) put its proposal into practice on campus and staged a series of activities, which attracted more than 1,300 students, teachers and guests.

Among the guests were the Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, and Deputy Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, Ms Grace Lui Kit-yuk. Mr Lam addressed the students, presented to the champion team the award and praised the efforts and the good work of the many students who participated in the promotion day.

Today's Basic Law promotion programme included an exhibition on the Basic Law, the winning entries of a cartoon competition, a broadcast of the winning entries of a Putonghua radio drama competition, and the presentation of the winning entries in a short drama competition, a debate competition and a quiz.

The Basic Law Promotion Day Competition attracted 68 entries from 53 schools and was jointly organised by the Constitutional Affairs Bureau and the Education and Manpower Bureau earlier this year. It was aimed at encouraging students to come up with creative ideas on how to promote the Basic Law among fellow schoolmates.

The Constitutional Affairs Bureau granted sponsorship of up to $10,000 to each of the five winning teams to stage a "Basic Law Promotion Day" in their respective schools this month.

Competition prizes included trophies, book coupons and a seven-day visit to Beijing in August 2004.
