SCA speaks on new line-up of Executive Council

Following is the transcript of a media briefing given by the Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, after attending the premiere of a CCTV programme on the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong SAR this afternoon (June 25):

Reporter: What do you think about the presentation of the new Executive Council ?

SCA: We just announced today the line-up of the Executive Council (Exco) for the third term HKSAR Government for the next five years. We are very pleased that in the new line-up we can still have access to the views of representatives of the different political parties in the Legislative Council (Legco). We have members who originate from the Liberal Party, DAB (Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong ), Federation of Trade Unions and the Alliance. Over the years, it has been the consistent approach of the HKSAR Government to assess the views of different political parties in the Legco and organisations in our community, so as to judge which is the best policy position to be taken. So in the course of the third term Government, we would build on the experience of the second term Government, and we will continue to communicate and liaise very closely with these members of the Exco who have political party backgrounds. We will also continue to abide by the principle of collective responsibility and confidentiality.
