EAC Report on 2005 Chief Executive Election published

The Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) Report on the 2005 Chief Executive Election is published today (September 23).

The report describes how the EAC conducted and supervised the 2005 Chief Executive election and the 2005 Election Committee Subsector by-elections. It also reviews arrangements of the elections in the light of this experience, and proposes improvement measures for future elections.

"We would like to thank the EAC for compiling the report. The Government will work closely with the EAC to follow up on the recommendations contained in the report, having regard to the views of the community," a government spokesman said.

The EAC report was submitted to the Chief Executive on September 14, 2005, in accordance with the requirements of the Electoral Affairs Commission Ordinance (Cap. 541). In line with past practice and the principle of open and transparent elections, the Government agreed with the EAC's recommendation to make public the report.

Copies of the report are available for collection at District Offices. The report can also be downloaded from the website of EAC (www.info.gov.hk/eac).
