SCMA visits Central and Western District

The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Patrick Nip, visited Central and Western District this afternoon (April 27), touring a women's welfare organisation and joining an exchange session with young people. He also met with members of the Central and Western District Council (CWDC) to exchange views on district matters.

Mr Nip started by visiting the Women's Welfare Club Western District, Hong Kong, where he was introduced to the welfare club’s work and services. The welfare club offers a wide range of services for children, young people and the elderly. Through collaboration with other non-government organisations, the welfare club also operates elderly centres and primary schools.

Mr Nip paid a visit to the Chung Hok Social Centre For The Elderly, one of the elderly centres established by the welfare club, to learn about the services rendered to the elderly. He also chatted with the elderly in the centre and listened to their comments on the centre’s activities and their daily life. Afterwards, he toured the Women's Welfare Club Western District Hong Kong Kindergarten and visited different classes. He said he was pleased to learn that the kindergarten offers child care services and education to children aged 2 to 6 for families in need. The school also provides a diversified learning environment to cater for children’s all-round development in different areas.

Mr Nip then joined an exchange session with youngsters in the district who were either studying and working in different fields to listen to them share their experiences on their study and work. They also exchanged views on the career opportunities of Hong Kong people on the Mainland.

Mr Nip said, "The development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area is an important national development strategy. It is not only a strategic blueprint of the whole country, but also an important development through which Hong Kong can acquire new impetus. With the opportunities to be brought by the Bay Area development, young people should adopt an open-minded attitude by gaining an understanding and learning more about the characteristics and development of the Bay Area cities before making a decision which suits their interests and talent."

Mr Nip also met with the members of the CWDC and exchanged views with them on district and community matters.
