SCMA continues visit in Dongguan (with photos)

The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Patrick Nip, continued his visit to cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area today (February 7), meeting with officials of the Dongguan Municipal Government and visiting Hong Kong enterprises operating businesses there.

During his visit to a Hong Kong smart toy development and production operation headquartered in Dongguan this morning, Mr Nip learnt about how Hong Kong pioneer investors in Dongguan had transformed and upgraded their operations from manufacturing factories in the 80s to production bases for smart technology products.

Mr Nip also visited the Binhai New Area, which will become a core development area in Dongguan through the Bay Area's development. The Binhai New Area will lead synergistic development in the Bay Area and focus on promoting itself as a centre for nurturing new industries, a hub of modern service industries and an innovation centre for high-end technology.

Mr Nip then met with the Deputy Secretary of CPC Dongguan Municipal Committee, Mr Zhang Ke, to get first-hand information on the development of Dongguan's economy and society as well as its role and position in the Bay Area's growth. They also exchanged views on future co-operation opportunities, in particular the upgrading and transformation of the manufacturing industry.

"Cities in the Bay Area, including Dongguan, have all along been co-operating closely with Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government looks forward to fostering closer co-operation and exchanges and complementary development with Dongguan and other cities in the Bay Area through the Bay Area development," Mr Nip said.

In the afternoon, Mr Nip visited a power tool production company to learn about the experience of Hong Kong enterprises in marketing their products worldwide using Dongguan as their production base.

Mr Nip concluded the visit today and return to Hong Kong this evening.
