SCMA visits Jiangmen (with photos)

The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Patrick Nip, continued his visit to cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area (Bay Area) and visited Jiangmen today (January 12). He met with officials of the Jiangmen Municipal Government and visited a Hong Kong enterprise running a manufacturing base there.

Mr Nip toured a production operation of a Hong Kong food enterprise in Jiangmen in the morning to learn more about the development and competetive edges of Hong Kong enterprises in the Mainland's food product industry. He also met with representatives of the company to exchange views on capitalising on the opportunities brought by the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area.

He then met with member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jiangmen Municipal Committee Mr Yi Zhongqiang and the Vice Mayor of the Jiangmen Municipal Government, Mr Xu Xiaoxiong, to exchange views on matters including enhancing co-operation between Hong Kong and Jiangmen and jointly propelling the Bay Area's development.

Mr Nip also went to Guangzhou South Station to observe the operation of the automatic ticketing machines which accept the Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents (Home Visit Re-entry Permits). He was glad to learn that the China Railway Corporation had installed automatic ticketing machines in train stations frequented by Hong Kong people in different provinces and municipalities to assist them in buying train tickets.

Mr Nip said that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSARG) has been proactively liaising with the relevant Mainland authorities to follow up on the measures to help Hong Kong people study, work and live in the Mainland. HKSARG offices in the Mainland have also been helping to ensure that the measures would be implemented in full at the local level.

Mr Nip concluded the visit today and will return to Hong Kong this evening.
