Transcript of SCMA's remarks at media session

Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Patrick Nip, at a media session after attending a radio programme today (November 25):

Reporter: (about the seminar on the 19th National Congress)

Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs: The 19th National Congress talk outlines the achievements made in the past five years and also the challenges and problems currently faced (by the country), and also sets out the direction, important initiatives and action plan for the future development of the country. So through the seminar, it helps government officials to better understand the future development of the country. That also helps the implementation of "one country, two systems" and helps us to seize the opportunities presented to us through the development of the nation so that we could work together to develop our economies, particularly the emerging sectors. As regards to the question of whether there will be any similar seminars in the future, actually in the past, we also organised seminars covering various topics to enable government officials to better understand the various developments of the country. So basically, that was very useful.

Reporter: Is it a form of brainwashing?

Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs: As I said, of course it's not. Because it's important for us to understand what happened - the development of the country, the principles behind its action plan. It's very relevant to us. By getting this information and by deepening our understanding, that helps us, no matter as an individual or as a government official, to formulate government policies or the future development of Hong Kong, and also our contribution to the country.

     Thank you very much.
