Transcript of SCMA's remarks at media session

Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Raymond Tam, at a media session after attending the Legislative Council Finance Committee meeting today (February 10):

Reporter: Mr Tam, why do you think it was an "ambush" by the pan-democrats? Are you relieved now the item was passed?

Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs: According to my own experience in the Legislative Council, we have been preparing for different scenarios. The bottom line is to ensure sufficient support in the Chamber or in the Legislative Council Building so that when there is any need to cast a vote on any decision, whether it is a motion to adjourn the meeting or a motion to decide on 37A amendment or on the proposal itself, there will be sufficient support. We have been fully prepared for that and it turned out that no matter what kind of development and what kind of pace of discussion at the Finance Committee, our preparatory work has proved to be quite effective judging from the fact that our item has been successfully concluded today.
