Hunan Liaison Unit commences operation

The Hunan Liaison Unit of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government came into operation today (May 25) to assist Hong Kong people and companies to better capitalise on the opportunities brought about by the development of the central region.

Located in Changsha, the capital city of Hunan Province, the Hunan Liaison Unit has been established under the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Wuhan of the HKSAR Government (Wuhan ETO).

The Director of the Wuhan ETO, Miss Sara Tse, said, "The Hunan Liaison Unit will work towards strengthening relations between Hong Kong and Hunan Province as well as its municipalities by enhancing government-to-government co-operation. It will also promote exchange and co-operation between Hong Kong and the relevant province and municipalities on economic and trade and cultural fronts as well as provide support to Hong Kong residents and companies in the area."

The Chief Executive announced in his 2016 Policy Address that a liaison unit would be set up in Hunan Province this year. The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Wuhan has been working closely with the relevant authorities of Hunan Province and Changsha to make preparations for the setting up of the Hunan Liaison Unit.

The Hunan Liaison Unit is initially operating from a temporary office so as to commence service as early as possible. The temporary office is located at Room 1715, 17/F, Wall Street Centre, 288 Furong Middle Road Section One, Kaifu District, Changsha, Hunan Province (Tel: (86 731) 8993 2546; email: hulu@wheto.gov.hk). The Hunan Liaison Unit is actively pursuing the setting up of a long-term office, and relevant details will be announced in due course.
