The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Raymond Tam, officiated at the unveiling ceremony of the Liaoning Liaison Unit (LLU) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in Shenyang, Liaoning Province today (April 27), marking the full-fledged operation of the LLU.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Mr Tam said that the LLU of the HKSAR Government was established with the aim to further strengthen HKSAR's ties with the Liaoning province and its municipalities, enhance government-to-government co-operation, promote exchange and co-operation between Hong Kong and the relevant province and municipalities, and to provide support for Hong Kong residents and companies in the area.

He said the establishment of the LLU signified an important step for the HKSAR Government in fostering closer ties and co-operation between Hong Kong and the Mainland.

Mr Tam noted that Liaoning was one of the earliest coastal provinces to implement the open-door policy. It is also a major source of Chinese culture and civilisation, he added.

Hong Kong has been maintaining close bilateral trade relations with Liaoning. As at the end of 2014, the cumulative number of Hong Kong investment projects in Liaoning amounted to 11,951 and actual cumulative investment was USD 98.1 billion, making Hong Kong the largest actual investment source in the province.
