Review of system of accountability of principal officials is still underway

In response to enquiries on a press article today (30 July) on who would serve as "ministers under Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa's planned ministerial system", a spokesman from the Constitutional Affairs Bureau said the suggestions in the article were purely speculative.

He reiterated that the Government was still reviewing the system of accountability of principal officials.

"The review is still underway. The exercise involves important and complex issues which need to be carefully thought through and the implications thoroughly assessed.

"Such speculations are unhelpful and uncalled for," the spokesman said, adding that the Chief Executive would inform the public of the progress of the review in the forthcoming Policy Address.
