The following is issued on behalf of the Secretariat of the Consultative Committee on Economic and Trade Co-operation between Hong Kong and the Mainland:
In response to a newspaper report relating to the development of Nansha and Hengqin today (March 17), the Consultative Committee on Economic and Trade Co-operation between Hong Kong and the Mainland (the Committee) responds as follows:
The Committee Chairman, Mr Jack So, said, "The Committee is a consultative body to advise the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government on matters related to strengthening co-operation with the Mainland in trade, economic and other relevant areas. One of its terms of reference is to study the implications of Nansha, Hengqin, Qianhai and the Loop area on the future development of Hong Kong, as well as opportunities and possible modes of co-operation.
"Since the establishment of the Committee in October last year, it has not received any idea or proposal put forth by the HKSAR Government in relation to the development of Nansha or Hengqin."
