The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, hosted a lunch for visiting representatives of the Taiwan legislature this afternoon (August 2). Mr Lam (centre, front row) is pictured with his guests.

Photo shows Mr Lam speaking at the luncheon. He welcomed the representatives of the legislature of Taiwan to Hong Kong, this time on the specific theme of education. Mr Lam referred in particular to the development of Hong Kong-Taiwan relations in recent years. The establishment respectively of the "Hong Kong-Taiwan Economic and Cultural Co-operation and Promotion Council" and the "Taiwan-Hong Kong Economic and Cultural Co-operation Council" in Hong Kong and Taiwan this year has provided a platform for the two places to foster exchanges not just in economic and cultural affairs, but also in education and other areas, he said. Hong Kong also welcomed the signing of the cross-strait "Economic Co-operation Framework Agreement" (ECFA) in June, which was expected to give impetus to and open up opportunities for economic development in the entire region, he added. On his right is the leader of the delegation, Mr Hsieh Kuo-Liang (second left).
