SCMA meets media after LegCo Subcommittee meeting

Following is the transcript of the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam's remarks to the media today (May 29) after attending a meeting of the Legislative Council Subcommittee on Package of Proposals for the Methods for Selecting the Chief Executive and for Forming the Legislative Council in 2012:

From today, the HKSAR Government will be initiating a new round of promotional activities so as to ensure that the community as a whole will understand in greater detail the proposals covered in the 2012 constitutional development package. We also hope to gain even wider support among the community and the people of Hong Kong for the constitutional development package for 2012 to be approved so as to pave the way for implementation of universal suffrage in the coming decade. As a whole, the HKSAR Government, our principal officials, will take part in these activities in the coming weeks. This is part of our efforts to gain community support and the support of different political parties for the 2012 package to move forward and for Hong Kong to make democratic progress.
