PSCMA leads HK delegation to attend the third meeting on HKSAR and Macao SAR's participation in the 2010 Shanghai World Expo

     The Permanent Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Joshua Law, will lead a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government delegation to Shanghai today (December 20) to attend the third meeting on HKSAR and Macao SAR's participation in the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.

     Also attending the meeting will be the Director of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, Mr Hong Hao; the Deputy Director General of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Co-ordination, Mr Chen Xianjin; representatives of the Macao SAR Government; and officials of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council.

     Hong Kong is involved in the Shanghai Expo in four different aspects. These are constructing and operating a standalone pavilion under the theme of "Hong Kong - A City with Unlimited Potential" to showcase the infinite imagination and creativity of Hong Kong; taking part in the Urban Best Practices Area (UBPA) exhibition with "Smart Card. Smart City. Smart Life" as the theme; organising a series of activities and performances in and outside the Expo site during the Expo period; and building a "virtual pavilion" as well as a "virtual UBPA exhibition" for the Expo Shanghai Online project.

     The project will be launched on May 1, 2010, to provide netizens with a realistic and virtual experience of Hong Kong's participation in the Shanghai Expo. Through joining the meeting, the HKSAR Government will be able to attain progress in its work in preparing for Hong Kong's participation in the Expo.

     The Shanghai Expo will be held from May 1 to October 31, 2010. More than 240 countries, cities and international organisations including Hong Kong will participate in the mega event, which is expected to attract 70 million visitors from the Mainland and worldwide.

     The meeting will be held tomorrow. Members of the HKSAR Government delegation include representatives of the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau, the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, the Information Services Department, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Architectural Services Department and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai. The delegation will return to Hong Kong tomorrow evening.
