In response to press enquiries concerning Shenzhen Mayor Xu Zongheng, a government spokesman today (June 8) said,
"We have noticed the reports in question. Over the years, Hong Kong and Shenzhen have established a firm foundation on co-operation. 'The Outline of the Plan for the Reform and Development of the Pearl River Delta Region (2008-2020)' and the set of comprehensive reform plan for Shenzhen promulgated and approved earlier by the Central Government had provided policy assurance and basis for future co-operation between Hong Kong and Guangdong as well as between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
"The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will continue to promote complementarity and development between the two places following the existing co-operation mechanism between Hong Kong and Guangdong as well as between Hong Kong and Shenzhen."
