SCMA hosts dinner for the Vice Chairman of the Straits Exchange foundation in Taiwan

The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, tonight (February 19) hosted a dinner in the honour of Mr Kao Koong-lian, Vice-Chairman and Secretary General of the Straits Exchange Foundation in Taiwan, who is in Hong Kong to attend a forum.  Mr Lam and Mr Kao exchanged views on matters of concern to Hong Kong and Taiwan.

On the subject of the implementation of the "Three Direct Links" across the Taiwan Strait, Mr Lam said that the HKSAR Government supported the development and believed that Hong Kong's role as an international financial centre and service hub would become more prominent as a result of the closer economic cooperation and exchanges among people as well as the prospering of economies on both sides of the Strait.

The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs Rita Lau, also attended the dinner.  She said that the HKSAR Government was encouraging the establishment of a Hong Kong-Taiwan Business Co-operation Committee, which would facilitate direct communication between enterprises of Hong Kong and Taiwan, and to foster closer co-operation in areas such as trade, investment and tourism.

The Managing Director of the Chung Hwa Travel Service, Mr Jeff Yang, and the Chairman of Asia Pacific Taiwan Federation of Industry and Commerce, Mr Alexander Pann, also attended the dinner.
