Mr Justice Woo reappointed Chairman of Electoral Affairs Commission

The Chief Executive has reappointed the Hon. Mr Justice Woo Kwok-hing as Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) for a term of three years, with effect from September 29, 2003. The appointment has been gazetted today (September 19).

"Under the leadership of Mr Justice Woo, the EAC has made important achievements in ensuring that public elections in Hong Kong are open, fair and honest," a Government spokesman said.

"Reappointment of Mr Justice Woo will be conducive to retaining the expertise and experience and preserving the continuity of the EAC's work," the spokesman added.

Mr Justice Woo was first appointed Chairman of the EAC in 1997.

The Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, welcomed the reappointment. "We look forward to working closely with the Commission in organising upcoming elections," said Mr Lam. The District Council election will be held on November 23, 2003, while the Legislative Council elections will be held in September 2004.
