Voter Registration

Article 26 of the Basic Law provides that permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region shall have the right to vote and the right to stand for election in accordance with the law. In Hong Kong, voter registration (“VR”) is voluntary and the relevant VR matters (such as eligibilities and procedures) are stipulated in the electoral legislation. Individuals/bodies fulfilling the relevant eligibilities may apply to the Registration and Electoral Office (“REO”) to be registered as electors in geographical constituencies, electors in functional constituencies, and/or voters in the Election Committee subsectors. Individuals/bodies included in the relevant final registers of electors/voters may vote in the corresponding public elections.

Please refer to the VR dedicated website at vr.gov.hk for further details.
