Election petition rules for CE Election to be published in the Gazette

The Chief Executive Election (Election Petition) Rules will be published in the Gazette tomorrow (November 16).

The Chief Executive Election (Election Petition) Rules, made by the Chief Justice under section 40 of the Chief Executive Election Ordinance, provide for procedural matters relating to an election petition arising from the Chief Executive Election.

"The procedures for an election petition of the Chief Executive election are similar to those that have been adopted for election petitions relating to the Legislative Council elections, subject to suitable modifications to cater for the requirements of the Chief Executive election," a spokesman of the Constitutional Affairs Bureau said today (November 15).

The Rules will be tabled in the Legislative Council on November 21, 2001 for negative vetting.

End/Thursday, November 15, 2001
