Basic Law Library opens to public on Monday

The HKSAR Basic Law Library, which is a joint project of HKSAR Government and the Basic Law Institute, will open to the public on Monday (December 20).
Located at the 5/F of the City Hall, High Block in Central, the Basic Law Library has an area of about 210 square metres. The collection at the opening will be 8,000 items, of which 4,500 items were bought by the Basic Law Institute from a collection grant provided by the Hong Kong Jockey Club. A total of 3,500 items originally housed in the Hong Kong Central Library have been transferred to the library.
The reference materials include books, journals, multimedia information, CD-ROMs, online databases and newspapers clippings.
Internet and Online Database workstations, Multimedia Information System workstations and an Online Public Access Catalogue terminal are available for public access.
Managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) libraries, the Basic Law Library is basically a reference library for the general public. Legal professionals, scholars and organisations are also welcome to use the service.
The Basic Law Library opens from Mondays to Thursdays from 10am to 7pm and closes at 9pm on Friday and at 5pm on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
The library closes on New Year's Day, Chinese New Year's Day and the following two days, Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Organised by the Constitutional Affairs Bureau and the LCSD, an exhibition "Drafting and Implementation of the Basic Law of the HKSAR" will also open on Monday (December 20) at the extension room on the 8/F of the City Hall High Block.
The Basic Law Library will organise book displays, exhibitions on special topics, visits and talks to enhance the public's understanding of the Basic Law.
