Deadline extended for views on constitutional development

The consultation deadline for the Third Report of the Constitutional Development Task Force would be extended by one month to September 30, a government spokesman said today (August 11).

The spokesman said the Task Force had received community feedback requesting more time to discuss the Third Report. "Having considered these requests, and in order to allow more time for members of the public, organisations in different sectors and political groups to make written submissions to the Task Force, it has decided to extend the consultation period from three to four months, to September 30," the spokesman said.

The Task Force published its Third Report in May this year in which it set out the areas which may be considered for amendment in respect of the methods for selecting the Chief Executive in 2007 and for forming the Legislative Council in 2008 in accordance with the provisions of the Basic Law and the relevant Interpretation and Decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

Members of the public may send their written submissions by post to the Constitutional Development Task Force Secretariat, Constitutional Affairs Bureau, 3rd floor, Main Wing, Central Government Offices, Lower Albert Road, Central, or by fax via 2523 3207, or via e-mail address at views@cab-review.gov.hk. The public is also welcome to visit the constitutional development website at www.cab-review.gov.hk.
