Following is the transcript (English portion) of a media session given by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Donald Tsang, after attending the Focus Group Discussion on Constitutional Development at North Point Government Offices, North Point this (August 23) afternoon:

I believe the Hong Kong public have a very common objective, that is to make the methods for electing the Chief Executive and the Legislative Council more representative, and we also should move towards the ultimate goal of universal suffrage. I urge everyone in Hong Kong to take advantage of the extended consultation period to express their views to the Task Force, particularly on how they wish the two election methods should be amended. All the views we received would be treasured. They become very important references for mapping out our future options. I would like to thank all those who have participated in our 12 seminars. There are altogether over 850 participants. They have expressed their own views on how the election methods should be changed, and they are very important views. We have also received about 150 submissions from other members of public on the changing of election methods. I, as a member of the Task Force, is very encouraged by the views expressed. They have suggested a whole variety of amendments, and all of them gear towards making the election methods more open, more representative, allowing more people to participate in elections of the Chief Executive and the Legislative Council. Perhaps I should now invite Dr Michael Luk, Professor Wang, and Professor Wong to brief you on the main points they have merged at today's discussion.
