*********************************************************

Following is the transcript (English portion) of a stand-up session by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Donald Tsang, on the Constitutional Development Task Force's upcoming visit to Beijing at the lobby of the Central Government Offices West Wing this (February 7) afternoon:

Chief Secretary: You are aware that the Central Government has been planning our visit to Beijing since they resume work after the Lunar New Year. This morning I have received a notice that arrangements have been made for us to meet the experts in Beijing on Monday and Tuesday. So the Task Force, comprising myself, Miss Elsie Leung and Mr Stephen Lam, will leave tomorrow afternoon and our meeting will begin on Monday. We will come back on Tuesday evening.

As you know, We are going to discuss the legal procedures and principles impinging on the constitutional development of Hong Kong. We will take the opportunity to convey Hong Kong people's views to the departments we are going to meet, and we are going to make good use of our time to establish good rapport with those experts when we are there. We want to make sure that when we will come to discuss various options later, we will be discussing those options on a common understanding, on what the legal provisions are, and what a relevant procedure should be.

(Please also refer to the Chinese portion of the transcript.)
