CS meets media after LegCo meeting
**********************************

Following is the transcript (English portion) of a media session by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Donald Tsang, after the LegCo meeting today (January 14):

Reporter: How about the upcoming meeting with the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office?

Chief Secretary: I have just received a reply from the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office saying that they were quite happy to arrange a meeting with us immediately after the Chinese New Year. It will enable us to discuss matters of principles and procedures under the Basic Law concerning our constitutional development.

Reporter: What about....paper?

Chief Secretary: Yes, I have just issued a paper to the Constitutional Affairs Panel of the Legislative Council. It sets out the matters of concern to people at large at this stage. These matters, of course, impinge upon the constitutional development provisions in the Basic Law. And I hope very much that this paper will also form a basis for discussion by members of the public at large. I have already put the paper onto the Government website and I hope that everybody will discuss it, and be able to discuss it rationally and more deeply.

Reporter: You have been urged by a number of people.....Could you reflect Hong Kong people's strong feeling when you meet with the Mainland officials? Can you give an assurance on that?

Chief Secretary: They would definitely have my pledge. I am going to relay what I have heard and what I am going to hear to the Central Government and to the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office. I am not going to interpret them in anyway. I think it is my job to make sure that their views will be fully reflected.
