Guangxi Liaison Unit commences operation

The Guangxi Liaison Unit (GXLU) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSARG) came into operation today (April 18) with the aim of assisting Hong Kong people and enterprises to better capitalise on the opportunities brought about by the development of the southern region on the Mainland.

Located in Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (Guangxi), the GXLU has been set up under the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong (GDETO) of the HKSARG.

The Director of GDETO, Mr Albert Tang said, "The GXLU will work towards strengthening relations between Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and Guangxi as well as its municipalities by enhancing government-to-government co-operation. It will also promote exchange and co-operation between HKSAR and the relevant region and municipalities on economic, trade and cultural fronts, as well as provide support to Hong Kong residents and enterprises in the area."

The Chief Executive announced in his 2017 Policy Address that a liaison unit would be set up in Guangxi before the middle of this year. The GDETO has been working closely with the relevant authorities of Guangxi and Nanning Municipality to make preparations for the setting up of the GXLU.

The GXLU is initially operating from a temporary office so as to commence service as early as possible. The temporary office is located at Room 502, Red Forest Hotel (Nanning), No.129, Minzu Avenue, Nanning, (Tel: (+86 771) 2611 228; email: gxlu@gdeto.gov.hk). The GXLU is actively pursuing the setting up of a long-term office, and relevant details will be announced in due course.
