HKSAR Government Shandong Liaison Unit opens (with photos)

     The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Raymond Tam, officiated at the opening ceremony of the Shandong Liaison Unit (SDLU) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government in Jinan, Shandong Province today (April 21), starting a new chapter in the operation of the SDLU.

     Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Tam said that the Chief Executive announced the setting up of the SDLU under the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai in the 2015 Policy Address, with the aim of further strengthening the HKSAR's ties with Shandong Province and its municipalities, enhancing government-to-government work, promoting exchange and co-operation between Hong Kong and the relevant province and municipalities and providing support for Hong Kong residents and enterprises in the area.

     Mr Tam said that Shandong is an important and economically vibrant Mainland province that is rich in cultural heritage. He added that since its establishment, the SDLU has been playing an active role in fostering closer ties between Shandong and Hong Kong.

     Hong Kong has been maintaining close economic relations with Shandong. Hong Kong investment ranks first among all countries and regions investing in Shandong in terms of number of projects, contract amount and foreign investment in actual use.

     Other officiating guests present at the opening ceremony of the SDLU today included the Vice Governor of Shandong Provincial Government, Ms Wang Suilian; the Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Shandong Provincial Government, Mr Xue Qingguo; the Deputy Secretary-General of Shandong Provincial Government, Mr Wei Huaxiang; Vice Mayor of the Jinan Municipal Government, Mr Zhang Haibo; the Permanent Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs of the HKSAR Government, Ms Chang King-yiu; the Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai, Miss Victoria Tang; and the Director of the SDLU, Miss Novia Wong.

     During his visit to Jinan, Mr Tam met with the Vice Governor of Shandong Provincial Government, Ms Wang Suilian, and exchanged views with her on stepping up exchanges and co-operation between the two places. Mr Tam also met with Hong Kong businessmen and students who conduct business, study, and live in Shandong to learn about their situation.

     The SDLU was set up under the purview of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai. Its temporary office is located at Room 1609, 16/F, Block E, Shimao International Plaza, 26 Quancheng Road, Lixia District, Jinan.
