SCMA answers media questions on constitutional development (with photos)

The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Raymond Tam, attended a meeting of the Kowloon City District Council this afternoon (March 13) to brief members on the "Consultation Document on the Methods for Selecting the Chief Executive in 2017 and for Forming the Legislative Council in 2016". Following is the transcript of his remarks at a media standup after the meeting:

Reporter: What do you think of the lawmakers boycotting the Shanghai trip?

Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs: I don't think they are boycotting. They are just considering not to attend. There are still about four weeks' time for them to reconsider whether or not to join the delegation to Shanghai. As I have just explained, this is a very useful and perhaps very important tour in the current exercise of implementing universal suffrage for the Chief Executive election in 2017 because I guess there will be opportunities for Central People's Government (CPG) senior officials who are responsible for constitutional development in Hong Kong to meet face to face with various political parties from the Legislative Council (LegCo). From this perspective, I would tremendously encourage all members of the LegCo to consider joining the tour next month.
